MIGRATION MAPS OF 2023

As every year, in 2023 the LIFE FALKON team downloaded new migration tracks of adult Lesser Kestrels from different study areas of the project.

Here is a glimpse of them in this beautiful map: the different individuals are indicated with a different colour and the breeding colonies are marked with stars (Red: Po Plain-IT, Yellow: Mater-ITa; Blue: Komotini-GR).

The migration tracks of lesser kestrels from the north-eastern sector of mainland Greece were also revealed for the first time, confirming a segregation of migratory routes of these populations over the eastern Sahara. Moreover, some of these kestrels are on their fourth consecutive migration tracked by LIFE FALKON, a record not only among birds but also in the field of migration research!
